how do you feel about losing your freedom?

One of the reasons the Internet has become so important to young people is that your generation isn't allowed to go anywhere else without adult supervision.  Is this justified?  My daughter is five. How old should she be before I let her walk to school alone?  Twenty? (thanks, slate.com!)
